Timi Leighton to represent Idaho in Miss Teen World pageant in Houston
Leighton, a 19-year from Eagle, Idaho, has also focused on participating in several beauty pageants since she was 15 years old consistently placing among the top in each contest entered over the past several years. June 21-25 she enters her biggest pageant yet as she will represent Idaho in the Miss Teen World USA Pageant in Houston, Texas. This event will be the largest and most competitive to date for Leighton, but a challenge she is excited to tackle.
"I am very social by nature and I love meeting new people," Leighton offered. "I want to pursue a career in sports broadcasting and competing in pageants provides me the opportunity to build my skills and gain confidence in new and different settings."
The Houston event is one she is especially excited about since she will have the honor of representing her home state of Idaho. "I can't wait to represent Idaho," Leighton said. "I am proud to be from Idaho and want to show the rest of the country what we are really made of."
While many aspiring sports journalists seek opportunities in traditional stick and ball sports, Leighton has her sights set on a career in extreme motorsports. "My career goal is definitely to work on SPEED Channel or Fox Sport Net covering extreme motorsports," Leighton said. "Since attending my first racing event I have been hooked. There is nothing like in sports. I want to be a part of it."
Leighton is also graduating from the Acaydia School of Aesthetics in Provo, Utah this month. The skills and certification gained at Acaydia will provide Leighton a solid income while attending college which she plans to start this fall. She will either attend St. Thomas University in St. Paul, Minnesota or the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. She has also been offered an internship at CNN that she will complete this summer or next.
Life for Leighton is all about balance as she juggles college, pageants, work, and family. She is heavily involved in her family's snocross team where she acts as team manager. "I think family is why I fell in love with racing," Leighton said. "I love every aspect of it. Our family race team is real special and being a part of it has allowed me to connect with great people all over the country. We often joke that our team would make a great reality TV show."
While family is the glue, Leighton is driven to succeed and passion propels this 19-year old as she embarks on the next phase of her life journey. Houston is only the next step.
A few interesting side notes about Timi Lee Leighton:
Favorite Movie: The Grinch. "I love to watch it the day after Thanksgiving and everyday until Christmas. I have it memorized.

Favorite TV Show: ESPN Sportscenter or SPEED Channel. "I don't watch much TV with my schedule, but if you were to catch me watching I would be watching Sportscenter or SPEED."
Person she most wants to have dinner with: Her older cousin Trey Leighton. "I have not seen Trey in a while as he is in Medical School at Michigan State, but he is an amazing cook. He is such an amazing person and someone I really look up to. He has a great personality and does not let anyone stop him from reaching his goals."
